As gold coast concrete buildings become older so do the effects of concrete cancer.  Concrete cancer otherwise known as spalling concrete occurs when reinforcement steel becomes exposed to the Gold Coast environment.  Early construction standards and techniques meant that coastal buildings would eventually become exposed to the effects of concrete cancer.  The lack of concrete cover, quality of concrete, construction standards and little knowledge of concrete spalling and cancer have resulted in numerous buildings becoming susceptible to the effects.
